FAQ and Troubleshooting the Gmail Gadget
Solution No. 207

I have staff that don't use Method. How do I remove the gadget from showing in their Gmail?
This is possible. However, consider first whether they should in fact be Method users after all - which employees in your company really could not benefit from having access to financial and CRM information on the contacts you do business with? If they really don't need to see the account information, you can divide your Google Apps users into 'organizations', and disable the gadget per organization. Click here to learn more.

Can the gadget send the email?
No. This is a general limitation of what any Google Gadget can do (specifically a 'contextual' Google Gadget, which is the technology we use). However, if you want to record the email that was sent, rather than what was received, go to your Sent Items after you send the email and use the gadget from there.

Can I customize the gadget?
No, it is configurable, but not customizable. Unlike regular Method, you can't use custom tabs, screens, tabs, fields or actions.  It needs to be used out of the box and configured.

Does this work on my mobile?
No, unfortunately Google has not yet enabled any 3rd party gadgets to be used outside of a regular browser.

How do permissions work? I don't want some users seeing certain information.
Please see the Add / View permissions section here: http://www.methodintegration.com/method/kb.aspx?folder=MethodCRM&id=206#transactions

I get an "unhandled error processing a request" error. What do I do?
Make sure you have IMAP enabled on your Gmail account. The Method Gmail gadget uses IMAP to pull information from the email (eg. first and last name) so we can fill that in for you. This needs to be enabled for the gadget to run effectively. To turn on IMAP in Gmail:

  1. Open Gmail and go to Settings.
  2. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP
  3. Under IMAP Access, make sure IMAP is enabled.
