To connect the Gmail Gadget to Google Apps

  1. Visit Method on the Google Apps Marketplace by clicking here
  2. Click Add it Now, and follow through the on screen prompts.
  3. Connect your Google Apps domain to Method CRM.
    1. If you are not the administrator of your Google Apps account, find out who is, and ask them to continue the steps below.
    2. Click on the link provided to you in the invite email, and sign into Google Apps.
    3. You should see "You have requested that the 'Method CRM' service be added to your domain".
    4. Click Grant data access.
    5. Sign out and sign back into Gmail.
    6. Select any email.
    7. Scroll to the bottom of the email. You should see a blue bar asking you to sign into Method CRM. If the gadget doesn’t show up right away, wait 15 minutes, sign out and sign in again (sometimes it takes a while for the gadget to appear).
  4. Each user in your company will now have the gadget visible next time they sign into Gmail, so they only need to perform steps (e), (f) and (g).

Does the gadget support franchises / multi-tenancy?

Yes. If you are a franchise, or are using the multi-tenant version of Method (so that multiple QuickBooks files can sync to the same Method account), you'll be happy to know that the gadget was designed with multi-tenancy in mind from the ground up. The gadget, by default, will sign you into your default franchise/tenant. However, when you search for contacts you'll be able to see all contacts in your permitted tenant list, and when you add new contacts you'll be able to add them to any tenant in your permitted tenant list. This means that franchisors and central call centers can use the gadget to route incoming requests and tickets. Yes....you're very welcome!!

What if I have multiple Method Company Accounts?

Often users of Method will have multiple company accounts if they have multiple QuickBooks company files. Consultants and developers will often have access to more than one account, either for the purpose of developing screens, providing consulting services / support, or for providing demos. The gadget can only be connected to one Method Account at any one time, however it does retain certain settings if you switch the connection between files.

  • First, you need to make sure that all the accounts you could potentially associate with your gadget are associated with your Method OpenID. Sign into Method using the Google Apps sign in. Once inside Method, in the top-right, click on your user name, and click Manage OpenID. Then click Add Additional Login for each company account you wish to associate with the gadget.
  • To determine which company account is currently connected to the gadget, click the settings link in the gadget, then select any of your company accounts (if given a list to choose from). Under Gmail Gadget > Personal Preferences > General, you'll see "Reset which company account the gadget connects to (currently YourCompanyAccount)", where YourCompanyAccount is the account the gadget is connected to currently.
  • To switch to a different company account, in the Gmail Gadget > Personal Preferences > General preference, place a check inside "Reset which company account the gadget connects to (currently YourCompanyAccount)" and click Save & Close. Select a different email in inbox, and click on the Sign into Method CRM link in the gadget. Select the company account you wish to connect.
  • Gmail Gadget > Preferences are tricky when you have multiple company accounts. Under Gmail Gadget > Personal Preferences, settings that are not in dropdowns lists pertain to your personal preference no matter what company account you use. Under Gmail Gadget > Personal Preferences, settings that are in dropdown lists pertain only to the company account referenced by the "Reset which company account the gadget connects to (currently YourCompanyAccount)" checkbox. Under Gmail Gadget > Company-wide preferences, settings pertain only to the company account you are currently signed into, regardless of the company account referenced by the "Reset which company account the gadget connects to (currently YourCompanyAccount)".
