Sad [:(] Installation slowing QB down

    We have two problems

    1.   The hour glass curser flickers constantly sometimes slowing us way down in QB

    2.   Online backup service cannot access QB file because Method is accessing the file

    Our install is as follows:

5 desk top users with QB Enterprise and Method integration and listener installed. One of these users with Admin permissions is set up to "listen for changes on". Changes are set up for every 20 minutes and a full sync one time a day when we are not in the office

On site server with with QB data file only

We are currently using QB more because of some customization we are doing in Method.

Is our set up OK or is there a better way to do this? We would have to buy another 5 user pack of QB if we wanted the program on the server.

    Thanks

    Jim

     Hi Jim,

    1. The “flickering” is something that you would typically see if there are many transactions that haven’t been synched yet, or more likely when there is a Full Sync going.

The Full Sync should only happen once a day, in the middle of the night, so it shouldn’t be doing this.  However, if there is something wrong, and it never completes a full sync, every changes only sync will be turned into a full sync until it finally completes a successful Full Sync.

If you go to his Audit Trail, and filter the Action by “SYN-“, you’ll get a list of all the completed syncs.  Is it doing a SYN-C every 20 minutes?  Do you see any SYN-F in there?

If you see some SYN-C in there, but also a mix of SYN-F, then check if is there someone using Method, going to the QuickBooks tab and clicking Full Sync whenever they want to sync something…this would cause it it to happen.

The other thing to check is when the flickering happens, go to the Method Integration Engine and see what it is doing.  Is it doing OnDemand changes, Changes Only sync, or a Full Sync?  (You can tell it’s doing a Full Sync because it goes 20 of 5000, 40 of 5000….etc.)

    2. We are working on this one. I'll let you know as soon as I get an update.

    Re: Installation slowing QB down

    Hi Amanda,

I was checking the audit trail on JPJ's method account.

One problem is that the assigned server pc setting was "Reset"

However, even before that, it appears that a Full Sync had not been completed since 08/16/09.

And the last changes-only Sync that occured in the audit trail was 08/18/09.

It appears they need to do a total reset on getting the server PC assigned and getting method settings correct for syncing.

Hope this puts you in a better spot for pin-pointing what we need to do here =).

Will wait to hear from you.

    ----

Side note: The full-sync and sync-c listed from 2 different PCs, neither of which was the assigned server. And the flickering seems to happen for about 30 minutes every hour. At this time the engine is going through many files. Likely to be attempting full syncs that continue to fail and thus not get logged.

     Hi Joe,

Thanks for the additional information, in that case it would be best to contact your Business Systems Consultant here at Method and they can troubleshoot this further.  It appears this may be a technical issue and we do provide free technical support.
