Edit existing portal settings
Solution No. 868

The following steps will show you how to edit specific settings for existing portals.

Method best practice says not to edit the stock option unless you're sure of your changes. You can create your own portal to test without giving access to customers by following the steps to create your own portal.
  1. Click Customize > Portals.
  2. Click Edit...beside the portal whose settings you wish to update.
You can navigate back and forth through the following steps using the Next and Previous buttons. Your changes will only be saved when you click Finish. If you click Cancel, none of your changes are saved.
  3. In Step 1, you can change the name of the portal and identify the Method User who is the portal's Administrator.

The rest of the settings in Step 1 were previously set up when the portal was created. Changes to these settings could influence how the email templates associated with this portal will appear, so be careful!
    Click Next.
  4. In Step 2, identify which tab a customer will see when signing into the portal.

The default assumes you are setting up a portal for customers. You may wish to choose a different tab to show to vendors or partners.
    Click Next.
  5. In Step 3, you can customize the appearance of tab links or hide them altogether.

Hiding your tab links could limit the customer's ability to use your portal.
    Click Next.
  6. In Step 4, review the Retrieve Password email (which is sent out if a user forgets their password), and make any changes you want to the subject and body.

The fields that appear inside the { } and [ ] brackets indicate mail merge, and are auto-filled when the email is sent.
    Click Next.
  7. In Step 5, review the registration email which is sent out when a customer first registers to use the portal, and make any changes you want as above.

    Click Next.
  8. In Step 6, you can change the company logo that appears on the portal. You can also choose to use your own:
    • header, which lets you alter the HTML that appears at the top of your portal, or to use a
    • frame, which lets you set up your portal inside an existing page of your own site.

    Click Next .
  9. In Step 7, click Show Test Page... to see what your portal looks like. You can also access the URL where your portal can be accessed. This URL can be copied directly to your company website by you or your web developer.
  10. Click Finish to save your changes.

You can come back at any time and change these settings for this or any other portal by following these steps.
